Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. ®
Theta Pi Chapter
Chapter History
Upon arriving at the School of Dentistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Valerie Wynn-Hall, an alumna of Winston-Salem State University, also noticed the lack of social and institution reinforcements for Black women. Seeing the deficiency, she decided that action must be taken to change things.
Wynn-Hall was charged with establishing the enduring pillars of sisterhood and service to all mankind as exemplified through Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. After much research, she began gathering women who embodied the ideals and goals of this great sorority. On Saturday, April 20, 1974, fourteen phenomenal women joined her in chartering the Theta Pi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated on the campus of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
